HESPER Automatic Hot & Cold Tape Cutting Machine — reel holder, material guides and control panel.

Accurate elastic band cutting starts with controlled feeding and a consistent way to measure the finished pieces. For small batch garment production, the challenge is keeping waistband, cuff and strap lengths repeatable while switching between sizes and materials.

Control feeding tension

Elastic stretches when pulled and contracts after release. If the cutter measures the tape while it is stretched, the relaxed piece can finish shorter than expected. Keep the roll unwinding smoothly and avoid pulling the tape tight before it reaches the feed rollers.

For stretch-sensitive material, discuss a compatible pre-feeder or controlled slack loop with the machine supplier. The aim is stable, low-tension feeding without tangles, sideways movement or roller slip.

Check the relaxed cut length

Agree on the target cut length, tolerance and measurement method before production. Include any sewing overlap in the cut specification; finished loop circumference is a different measurement.

Run a short trial using the actual elastic. Let every sample relax for the same agreed interval, then lay it flat and measure without stretching it. Compare several pieces, adjust the setup and repeat the check before releasing the batch. A programmed length alone does not prove the finished tolerance.

Match the blade to the material

Cold cutting avoids a heat-sealed edge. Hot cutting may help seal suitable thermoplastic fibres, but it is not suitable for every elastic blend. Confirm the fibre composition and test for fraying, hard edges, discolouration and loss of stretch. Choose the process around the garment's sewing and comfort requirements.

Make small batches repeatable

  • Keep a setup record for each material and garment size: cut length, quantity, feed settings and approved sample.
  • Label bundles by size and material lot to prevent mixing at the sewing station.
  • Recheck the first pieces after a roll change or setting adjustment, and sample during the run.

An automatic elastic band cutting machine can reduce repetitive measuring and cutting. For short runs, easy setup and dependable changeovers matter alongside cutting speed.

Choose a machine around your elastic

Send HESPER your elastic width, thickness, composition, cut lengths, required tolerance and typical batch quantity. A material sample helps establish feeding behaviour and edge quality before a configuration is confirmed.
